Materials Data Base HAPL CTC Document

June 9, 2004

As we progress with the design, modeling analysis and experiments on the chamber armor, FW and blanket, we should try to be consistent and use a common database for material properties.

The following properties from the database shown on the ARIES & APEX web sites are suggested as starting points. As more accurate properties become available (per the MWG), the database will be updated. As different armor samples are used in the experiments, the actual properties of the samples should be used (if available) and added to the database.

Ferritic Steel

  • Maximum temperature limits (with the understanding that it tends to be the limit on the maximum allowable stress at the given temperature which is limiting and ideally which should be computed for more accurate analysis):
       - FS maximum temperature < 550oC (through-thickness average at max. temp. location)
       - ODS FS maximum temperature < 700oC (through-thickness average at max. temp. location)
       - Li/FS interface temperature < 600oC
       - Pb-17Li/FS interface temperature < 450oC
       - Flibe/ODS FS interface temperature < 600oC (TBD)
  • Other FS properties from S.J. Zinkle, J.P. Robertson and R.L. Klueh, ORNL: "Thermophysical and Mechanical Properties for Fe-(8-9)%Cr reduced activation steels (3/25/98 draft)"): http://aries.ucsd.edu/LIB/PROPS/FS/FS.html
