The DOE Office of Fusion Energy recently reorganized into two Divisions, a Science Division (headed by John Willis) and a Technology Division (headed by Milton Johnson). However, a matrix management system has now been set up, establishing management teams to oversee programs in various topical areas. The teams will draw personnel from across the Divisions. Yesterday, the team leaders were identified by fusion program leader N. Anne Davies. They are as follows:

ITER: Warren Marton

Tokamak Physics: Erol Oktay

Alternate Concepts: Ron McKnight

Plasma Science: Ron McKnight

Theory: Steve Ekstrand

Advanced Technology: Sam Berk

Spinoffs: Sam Berk

It had been expected, based on a presentation by Dr. Davies at the last Fusion Energy Advisory Committee meeting, that teams would be formed on the topics of Diagnostics and International Programs (other than ITER), but no announcements were made regarding these topics. The addition of a Spinoffs team, not previously mentioned by Dr. Davies, came as a surprise.
