FPN22-51
IAEA Fusion Energy Conference Scheduled
November 10, 2022
Information on submitting U.S. Papers is provided below:
The 29th IAEA Fusion Energy Conference (FEC2023) will be held in London,
United Kingdom on October 16-21, 2023. The official IAEA announcement is
available at: https://www.iaea.org/events/evt2102340.
U.S. submissions will be evaluated by a paper selection committee before
FES submits nominations to the IAEA. This ensures that the strongest
U.S. papers are submitted to this competitive international conference.
Here is the schedule for the submission and selection of U.S. papers:
U.S. Submission Deadline:
- The deadline for submission of the two-page extended synopses to the
U.S. Paper Selection Committee (USPSC) is January 16, 2023. These
synopses should be emailed to FEC2023.US@science.doe.gov before this
deadline.
- The topical areas have been announced and are listed below.
Sub-topical areas are not yet known. Note that the keywords are
indicative of the topical area and are not limiting.
- EX: Magnetic Fusion Experiments
- Keywords: toroidal and helical configurations,
confinement, stability, performance and control, wave-plasma
interactions, current drive, heating, energetic particles,
plasma-material interactions, divertors, limiters, scrape-off-layer
- TH: Magnetic Fusion Theory and Modelling
- Keywords: confinement, stability, performance and control,
wave-plasma interactions, current drive, heating, energetic particles,
plasma-material interactions, divertors, limiters, scrape-off-layer
- TECH: Fusion Energy Technology
- Keywords: materials, magnets, engineering, system integration,
neutron sources, radiation transport and activation, power plant design,
safety, maintenance and remote handling, socio-economic and environmental aspects
- IFE: Inertial Fusion Energy
- Keywords: materials, power plant design, targets, drivers
- IAC: Innovative and Alternative Fusion Concepts
- Keywords: linear configuration, non-magnetic configurations,
hybrid concepts, fusors
- FES will distribute further guidance concerning how to submit your
synopsis once IAEA releases further information.
U.S. Paper Selection Committee:
- The USPSC will select the papers to be forwarded to the IAEA. This
Committee will meet virtually on January 31 - February 2, 2023.
After the U.S. Selection Process:
- The results of the USPSC meeting will be communicated to the authors
soon after their meeting. Authors will be informed whether their papers
have been selected for submission to the IAEA and about any
recommendations from the USPSC for combining or modifying the accepted
papers. Once a paper is selected, the author must submit it to IAEA.
FEC2023 Programme Committee:
- The IAEA FEC2023 International Programme Committee will make the
final selection of the papers for the conference. The Programme
Committee will meet May 8-12, 2023, at the IAEA Headquarters in Vienna,
Austria.
- All decisions about whether a paper is to be accepted, to be an oral
or poster presentation, or to be rapporteured, etc., will be made by the
IAEA FEC2023 International Programme Committee and will be communicated
to the author directly by the IAEA. However, U.S. authors can express
their preference for an oral or poster presentation in their submission
to the USPSC.
This information will also be posted on the DOE Fusion Energy Sciences web site
