FPA 2022 Leadership Awards

July 17, 2022

Fusion Power Associates (FPA) Board of Directors has selected Debra Callahan of the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory and Kathryn McCarthy of the Oak Ridge National Laboratory to receive its 2022 Leadership Awards. The awards will be presented at Fusion Power Associates 43nd Annual Meeting and Symposium, December 7-8, in Washington, DC.

In selecting Debra the FPA Board recognizes her decades of leadership and outstanding contributions to the design of hohlraum targets for implosion experiments on the National Ignition Facility (NIF). The Board also notes the leadership she has provided for recruiting, training, and mentoring a diverse group of scientists needed for the design of a future generation of targets for NIF experiments.

In selecting Kathryn the FPA Board recognizes her track record of building and leading world-class programs at Idaho National Lab, Canadian Nuclear Laboratories and Oak Ridge National Laboratory. The Board especially notes her recent participation in several recent fusion policy reviews and her current leadership of the US ITER Project team.

FPA Leadership Awards have been given annually since 1980 to recognize persons who have shown outstanding leadership qualities in accelerating the development of fusion as a commercial power source. A list of previous recipients can be found at http://fusionpower.org and click on Awards.
