Fusion Community IFE Workshops Launching

October 29, 2021

A self-organized set of fusion community workshops related to inertial fusion energy is launching on November 16. See announcement below:

With increased national interest in fusion energy, direct recommendations from FESAC, and encouraging inertial fusion results, now is the opportune time to evaluate a U.S. Inertial Fusion Energy (IFE) program.

This wlll start with a community-led workshop. The charge for workshop attendees is twofold:

1. Assess near- and long-term research opportunities in inertial fusion energy, and the necessary high energy density physics and technologies.

2. Outline and develop a strategy for the HEDP, ICF, and IFE communities to work together.

This workshop endeavors to collect input from the entire community, spanning academia, national laboratories, industry, and private investors. Engaging all aspects of our community and leveraging their unique capabilities solidifies the foundation of future IFE work. This workshop would be a community-driven process focused on IFE, feeding into a Basic Research Needs charge and subsequent report.

The workshop will begin with a kick-off meeting on Nov 16 from 8am-1pm Pacific on WebEx. Please register here: https://www.cvent.com/d/1mq578
