Hutch Neilson to Receive IEEE Award

September 21, 2020

Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory physicist George “Hutch” Neilson will receive the 2020 Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers’ (IEEE) Nuclear & Plasma Sciences Society (NPSS) Merit Award for decades of achievements, including his contributions to plasma physics research and for overseeing projects in collaboration with fusion experiments around the world from the Wendelstein 7-X (W7-X) stellarator in Germany to the international ITER experiment in the south of France.

The award, which recognizes “outstanding technical contributions to the field of nuclear and plasma sciences,” will be given to Neilson at the 2021 Symposium on Fusion Engineering (SOFE) conference May 31 to June 4, which will likely be postponed or virtual. The honor includes a $5,000 award.
