Academies Fusion Pilot Plant Study Schedules Kickoff August 26

The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (NASEM) is
assembling a committee to provide guidance to the U.S. Department of
Energy, and others, that are aligned with the objective of constructing
a pilot plant in the United States that produces electricity from fusion
at the lowest possible capital cost (“Pilot Plant”). The study is to be
completed within eight months of project initiation. A kickoff virtual
meeting is scheduled for Wednesday August 26. U.S. fusion program head
Jim Van Dam will discuss the goals of the study with proposed members
of the committee. Richard Hawryluk is the proposed chair.
The NASEM is required to post the names of proposed committee members on
its web site for 20 days for public vetting:
