Academies Fusion Pilot Plant Study Schedules Kickoff August 26

August 24, 2020

The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (NASEM) is assembling a committee to provide guidance to the U.S. Department of Energy, and others, that are aligned with the objective of constructing a pilot plant in the United States that produces electricity from fusion at the lowest possible capital cost (“Pilot Plant”). The study is to be completed within eight months of project initiation. A kickoff virtual meeting is scheduled for Wednesday August 26. U.S. fusion program head Jim Van Dam will discuss the goals of the study with proposed members of the committee. Richard Hawryluk is the proposed chair.

The NASEM is required to post the names of proposed committee members on its web site for 20 days for public vetting: https://www.nas.edu/fusion

Members of the public can view the August 26 meeting on Zoom as observers. Information on the meeting can be found at:
