ITER Project Reaches 50% Completion Milestone

The International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER) project "is now 50 percent built" according to a December 6 press release from the ITER Organization:

The facility is being constructed by an international partnership of 35 countries. There are seven ITER Members -- the European Union, China, India, Japan, Korea, Russia and the United States. ITER is aimed at demonstrating the sustained release of fusion energy. The facility plans to operate at a 500 Megawatt thermal level.

ITER Director-General Bernard Bigot was recently in Washington to speak at Fusion Power Associates 38th Annual Meeting and Symposium: Pathways and Progress Toward Fusion Power.
