Bob McCrory Retires as Head of U. Rochester LLE

Dr. Robert L. McCrory, Director of the U. Rochester Laboratory for Laser Energetics (LLE) for the past 35 years and a member of the Fusion Power Associates Board of Directors has retired from the post effective October 1. E. Michael Campbell, currently deputy director of LLE, has been named as Bob's successor, subject to approval by the University's Board of Trustees. Bob received his bachelor's and Ph.D. degrees from MIT. He arrived at the University of Rochester in 1976 as a research scientist from the Los Alamos National Laboratory and became director of the LLE in 1983. Under Bob's leadership the LLE became the largest single research facility at the University and has played a major role in the US and World inertial confinement fusion efforts.

"I'm most proud that this lab has grown from a small university research lab to a major research lab with an international reputation," Bob said. The LLE is home to the Omega laser facility, the most powerful laser facility housed an any university and one of the most powerful of its kind in the world.
