Position Opening in the Theory Division at UR/LLE
February 28, 2016
The University of Rochester's Laboratory for Laser Energetics (LLE) is
seeking an outstanding scientist to lead the Theory Division. Funded
primarily by the Department of Energy (DOE), LLE plays a major role in
inertial confinement fusion (ICF) as the lead laboratory for the
development of laser direct-drive target concept, the identification and
exploration of innovative fusion concepts, and high-energy-density
physics (HEDP). LLE is also a center of excellence in the science and
technology of high-power lasers. LLE partners extensively with the
campus of the University of Rochester and with the national laboratories
and universities who conduct research in ICF and HEDP. Additional
information may be found at the website
(www.rochester.edu/jobopp).
They are interested in an individual who has demonstrated scientific
excellence in the areas of plasma physics, fusion, astrophysics and
related fields, and who has demonstrated or has the potential for
leadership. Excellent communication skills and the ability to develop
and execute a strategic vision are also qualities that we are looking
for. Because of the importance of high-performance computing (HPC) in
advancing ICF and HEDP, the Division leader must also be capable of
developing and executing LLE's HPC strategy that includes partnerships
with the national laboratories and the University of Rochester campus.
The candidate must be able to obtain a DOE Q clearance due to LLE's role
in ICF and HEDP research.
