GS Lee Appointed Deputy Director General of ITER

Dr. Gyung-su ("GS") Lee was appointed Deputy Director General and Chief
Operating Officer of the ITER Organization effective September 1. He is
expected to oversee the design, construction, installation, and
preparation for operations for the ITER device. A new schedule for
completion of ITER construction will be presented to the ITER Council
for approval at its mid-November meeting.
Dr. Lee spearheaded the construction of the KSTAR tokamak in Korea and
was president of the Korean National Fusion Research Institute (NFRI)
from 2008 to 2011. He also has served as chair of the ITER Management
Council, an advisory body reporting to the ITER Council. He has been
vice chair of the ITER Council since 2014.
