Heavy Ion Inertial Fusion Symposium, August 12-17 in Berkeley, CA

May 24, 2012

The 19th International Symposium on Heavy Ion Inertial Fusion to be held August 12-17, 2012 in Berkeley, California. This symposium continues the series of workshops and symposia that began in Berkeley in 1976. The most recent symposia occurred in Darmstadt, Germany (2010), Tokyo, Japan (2008), Saint-Malo, France (2006), and Princeton, New Jersey, USA (2004).

The purpose of the symposium is to review the status of heavy ion fusion (HIF) research, and to stimulate further progress in understanding inertial fusion energy production and the science and technology needed for its implementation. The symposium will bring together experts in these areas:

There will be tours on Wednesday, August 15, 2012:
Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory: Neutralized Drift Compression Experiment II (NDCX-II)
Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory: National Ignition Facility (NIF)

The Symposium will include a banquet on Thursday evening, August 16, 2012 at Chabot Space and Science Center.

Papers from the symposium will be assembled into a single journal issue and published. A poster session for contributed papers will take place on Thursday afternoon.
