In selecting Dr. Matzen, the FPA Board recognizes his many scientific and techinical contributions to fusion development and the leadership he has been providing to the U.S. and world inertial fusion efforts, including the leadership he is providing to the field of pulsed power and its applications to stockpile stewardship, high energy density physics and inertial fusion energy. Fusion Power Associates Leadership Awards have been given annually since 1980 to individuals who have shown outstanding leadership qualities in accelerating the development of fusion as an energy source.
