Dave Crandall Assumes Key Role in Inertial Fusion for Energy at DOE

Dr. David Crandall, NNSA's Chief Scientist, has been asked to take on a unique and challenging assignment. Dr. Crandall will be directly supporting the Under Secretary for Science, Dr. Steven Koonin, on national security matters, including helping to design a government approach to inertial fusion energy technology. He will facilitate cooperation and collaboration between NNSA and the Office of Science, which are key to advances in inertial fusion energy.

Dr. Dimitri Kusnezov, Director, Office of Research and Development for National Security Science and Technology in the Office of Defense Programs, will now serve as NNSA's Chief Scientist. In this capacity, Dr. Kusnezov will provide the leadership for NNSA's science, technology and engineering issues both internally and externally. He will also continue to lead our strategic interagency efforts for national security science and technology. Additionally, Dr. Kusnezov will retain his responsibilities in Defense Programs as the Chair of the Science Council.

Dr. Crandall has agreed to speak at Fusion Power Associates 31st Annual Meeting and Symposium: Fusion Energy:Focus on the Future, December 1-2 in Washington, DC (http://fusionpower.org).
