Large Helical Device (LHD) Papers Published

The American Nuclear Society journal Fusion Science and Technology (FS&T), edited by Nermin Uckan, has published a special issue devoted to Large Helical Device (LHD) project, located at the National Institute for Fusion Science (NIFS), in Toki-city, Gifu, Japan (FS&T Vol.58, No.1, July/August 2010).

This LHD special issue marks the 20th anniversary of the NIFS, founded on May 29, 1989 to conduct the heliotron research that includes the LHD project. The 14 chapters/61 papers included in this 600 pages of special issue provide an excellent overview of the LHD scientific and technological achievements and cover the period of the past 12 years of LHD operation from its first plasma on March 31, 1998, to early 2010.

Profs. Hiroshi Yamada and Satoru Sakakibara are the guest editors for the issue and preface is written by Prof. Osamu Motojima, former Director General of NIFS, present ITER Director-General.
