German Chancellor Angela Merkel Endorses Fusion for Energy

On January 30, German Chancellor Angela Merkel called for fusion to be
explored as a solution to the world's energy needs. She said that
fusion, along with renewable energy sources such as wind and solar
power, was a "future technology" worth investing in. "We want to bring
the type of energy that the Sun produces to Earth," she said.
On February 1, Merkel, a former physicist, visited the Max Planck
Institute for Plasma Physics in Greifswald where a billion-dollar-class
stellarator fusion experiment is under construction. Further details of
