The nineteen chapters/papers included in the FS&T issue provide an overview of the Tore Supra (TS) scientific and technological achievements that cover the period of 20 years of TS operation from mid-1988 to early-2009.
Dr. Claudio De Michelis is the guest editor for the issue and preface is written by Dr. Michel Chatelier. Writing in the preface, Chatelier notes "... what has been learned with Tore Supra will become the normal standard of operation with forthcoming superconducting mediums to large devices and with ITER particularly ..."
FS&T has been working with the international tokamak groups to contribute to series of special issues to recognize and highlight the science and technology contributions to a next-step burning plasma device (ITER). The Tore Supra issue is the ninth in the FS&T series of tokamak experiments. The first eight were: JT-60 (2002), ASDEX-Upgrade (2003), FTU (2004), TEXTOR (2005), DIII-D (2005), JFT-2M (2006), Alcator C-Mod (2007), and JET (2008).
