In Memoriam: Joe DiMarco

Joseph N. DiMarco, Ph.D., of Albuquerque passed away on October 4, 2009, at his home. He was born in New York City on September 28, 1935, and was married to Fran DiMarco for 46 years. He received a Doctorate in Physics from Stevens Institute of Technology. He joined the Los Alamos National Laboratory in the early 1960s and subsequently made numerous scientific contributions to many fusion experiments there, including the Stuffed Caulked Cusp and a series of successful toroidal pinch experiments. During his career, spanning more than three decades, he also worked on rail guns and magnetic dipoles and was a Fellow of the American Physical Society. He retired from the lab in 1993.

Joe enjoyed hiking, fishing, trap shooting, traveling, and as a young man, car racing. He served as Los Alamos County Chair of the Republican Party and on the County's Planning and Zoning Commission. Joe and Fran moved to Albuquerque in 1998. An active supporter of the YMCA, he was also a member of the Zia Rifle Club. Joe was a loving and generous husband, father, grandfather and friend. He is also survived by daughters Joann Rosinski, Donna Holland and husband Daniel, and Leah DiMarco; grandchildren Alex Rosinski, Erica Rosinski, Lauren Holland and Lindsey Holland.
