HEDLP Workshop Planned Nov 15-18

September 16, 2009

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE)Office of Fusion Energy Sciences (OFES) and the DOE National Nuclear Securtiy Administration (NNSA) will hold a Joint Research Needs Workshop on High Energy Density Laboratory Plasmas (HEDLP) November 15-18 at the Hilton Hotel in Rockville, Maryland.

Persons wishing to provide input to the workshop should do so via the Workshop web site at:

http://www.ofes.fusion.doe.gov/HEDLP_Website/HEDLP_ReNew.shtml

The main goal of the Workshop is to examine in depth the "compelling scientific opportunities for research in fundamental HEDLP" and the "scientific issues of implosion and target design that need to be addressed to make the case for inertial fusion energy (IFE) as a potential energy source."

The workshop will led by Professor Robert Rosner (U. Chicago) and Professor David Hammer (Cornell U.)

DOE "technical leads" are Francis Thio (OFES) and Dillon McDaniel (NNSA).
