I am pleased to announce that Dr. David N. Hill will join DIII-D as Deputy Director of the DIII-D National Fusion Program, effective immediately. The Deputy Director will assist the DIII-D Director in the planning and execution of the DIII-D program and will have key responsibility for proposal preparation, program reviews, milestone reports, and quarterly reports. He will be a DIII-D program spokesperson in discussions with the Office of Fusion Energy Science and other fusion research labs, and will have a major responsibility in program coordination with DIII-D collaborators.
Dr. Hill is presently the Program Leader for the Sustained Spheromak Physics Experiment (SSPX) and Deputy Program Leader for Magnetic Fusion Energy at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. Prior to leading the SSPX, Dr. Hill worked for 12 years on DIII-D, leading the DIII-D divertor physics program on DIII-D for 8 years, and has maintained a strong interest in the DIII-D program. His broad experience in fusion experiments, ranging from mirrors to tokamaks to innovative confinement concepts, his experience in program leadership, and his interest in moving ITER and DIII-D forward and broadening effective participation on DIII-D will make Dave a valuable addition to the DIII-D program.
Please join me in welcoming Dave back to DIII-D and supporting him as Deputy Director of the DIII-D National Fusion Program.
Dave will remain an LLNL employee and can be reached at hilld@llnl.gov
