Fast Ignition Papers Published

May 5, 2006

The American Nuclear Society journal, Fusion Science and Technology (FS&T), edited by Nermin Uckan, has published a special issue (April 2006) devoted to a set of papers describing the status of the worldwide effort in fast ignition. Michael Campbell (General Atomics), Richard Freeman (Ohio State University), and Kazuo Tanaka (Osaka University) are the guest editors.

Papers in this issue cover theoretical, computational, and experimental research on all aspects of Fast Ignition; the next generation of facilities that will provide critical data; and the associated science and technology of high-energy, short-pulse lasers, heavy ions, target fabrication, and diagnostics. For completeness and as a motivation for research, fusion power plants based on fast ignition targets are also included.
