ITER Seeks Senior Mgmt Candidates

January 15, 2006

The European Commission has posted an "Open Call for Expressions of Interest" to find candidates to nominate for the position of ITER Principal Deputy Director General/Project Construction Leader (PDDG) and other senior ITER management positions. The other ITER Parties (China, India, Japan, Korea, Russia and the U.S.) will presumably also nominate candidates. All positions are subject to the approval of the other ITER Parties.

The announcement states that applications must be received by January 20 and that the PDDG "would be expected to take up his/her duties no later than the middle of 2006." The ITER Parties previously named Kaname Ikeda of Japan to be ITER Director General.

In addition to applications for PDDG, the European Commission is also seeking candidates for other senior ITER management positions, including:

Magnets Design Engineer
Fuel Cycle Officer
Remote Handling and Maintenance Officer
Divertor and Limiter Officer
Assembly Officer
Heating and Systems Technology Project Leader
Administration Officer
Mechanical Engineer

The deadline for receiving applications for these positions is January 30.
