Baker Resigns Fusion Technology Post

February 10, 2005

Dr. Charles C. Baker has resigned his post as Director of the U.S. fusion program's Virtual Laboratory for Technology (VLT) (http://vlt.ucsd.edu). In a communication to VLT Leaders, Baker said he arrived at his decision "only after some considerable reflection." "I wish all of you the very best in your future endeavors and I hope for better days in the future for a program aimed at fusion energy," he said.

Baker headed several fusion review and planning studies over the years, including the 1988 Technical Planning Activity, and the 2000 Integrated Program Planning Activity. He currently is chair of a Fusion Energy Sciences Advisory Committee panel on program priorities.

Baker is a recipient of the DOE Distinguished Associate Award and other awards, including Fusion Power Associates Leadership Award (1994).
