Under the motto "Passion for Innovation", graduates and young scientists in all specialist areas and disciplines are encouraged to apply by submitting an abstract of their thesis by January 7, 2005. The authors of the three best papers in each category and their supervising professors will be presented with their prizes at the award ceremony in Germany in September 2005.

The BMW Group Scientific Award 2005 has been presented every two years since 1991 and has, to date, been awarded to 39 young scientists and their professors. The internationality and interdisciplinary nature of the Award was particularly evident in the last competition: around 200 applicants from more than 20 countries took part, with PhDs, theses and diploma theses in 16 different specialist fields.
