FESAC to Meet September 11-12

August 20, 2002

The US DOE Fusion Energy Sciences Advisory Committee (FESAC) will meet September 11-12, in public session, at the Marriott Hotel, 9715 Washingtonian Blvd, Gaithersburg, MD. The meeting will begin at 9 AM each day, and will end at noon on September 12.

Dr. Raymond Orbach, director of the DOE Office of Science, will open the meeting with a talk on "Office of Science Perspective," followed by a talk by Dr. N. Anne Davies on "OFES Perspective." Prof. Stewart Prager (U. Wisconsin) will then present the report of the FESAC panel recommending a strategy for a U.S. program on burning plasmas. The afternoon of the first day will be devoted to a discussion of that report, including public comment. On the morning of the second day, progress reports will be given on two ongoing FESAC panels: Jill Dahlburg (General Atomics) on Simulation/Integrated Modeling, and Kathy McCarthy (INEEL) on Non-Electric Applications. There will also be a new charge given to FESAC to study Fusion Development Paths.
