Tokamak Workshop Planned

April 19, 2002

A U.S. Tokamak Planning Workshop will take place June 10-12, 2002 at General Atomics, San Diego, California. The DIII-D National Fusion Program at General Atomics and the Alcator C-mod National Fusion Program at MIT will present their forming research plans for the 5-year period 2004-2008 for broad community input and discussion.

Information on the workshop can be found at http://web.gat.com/tpw/

The DIII-D and Alcator C-mod Programs are the largest tokamak research programs in the United States. The research on these devices is primarily basic plasma physics research laying the scientific basis for magnetic confinement fusion energy. These devices produce fusion grade plasmas with temperatures up to 20 keV. Their research programs are international in scope, consisting of about 50 participating institutions and 400 users. Researchers from universities or other institutions interested in participating in research on these devices are invited to attend this workshop and/or to contact the workshop organizing committee members. However please note the pre-registration requirements posted on the workshop website.
