2002 Fusion Summer Study

April 13, 2002

The 2002 Fusion Summer Study will be held in Snowmass, CO, July 8-19, 2002. The Summer Study will be a forum for the critical assessment of major next-steps in the U.S. fusion energy sciences program.

Emphasis will be on possible initiatives in burning plasma science in magnetic fusion energy and integrated research experiments in inertial fusion energy.

The views of the participants developed during the preparation activities, and during the 2002 Summer Study itself, will provide critical fusion community input to the decision process of FESAC and DOE on the strategy for proceeding with burning plasma experiments, and to a planned review of burning plasma science by the National Academy of Sciences.

Registration information, hotel accommodations, and working group structure for Snowmass 2002 can be found at http://web.gat.com/snowmass.

Hotel reservations should be made by April 30.

Persons interested in contributing to the preparation for the meeting, or making presentations at the Snowmass, should contact the appropriate subgroup convener listed at the website.

There will be a full program of family and social activities for spouses, children, and companions. Childcare is available.

A limited amount of funds for US participants is available from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) to support travel to Snowmass for students and those holding grants of less than $200K.
