USDOE Announces Diagnostics Funding

March 20, 2002

The US Department of Energy, Office of Fusion Energy Sciences (OFES), has announced the results of a competition to fund the development of fusion plasma diagnostics begun almost a year ago (FPN01-32). The competition included all existing programs that were up for renewal in FY 2002.

Approximately $4 million will be distributed among 15 institutions, chosen from 39 proposals received. Two of the 15 were new starts, the remaining 13 being renewals of previously funded efforts. The two new efforts will be at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (Mark May and Peter Beiersdorfer) and at the Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory (Manfred Bitter). Details on all fifteen efforts are posted at http://wwwofe.er.doe.gov/FusionDocuments/Diagnostics.pdf
