PPPL to Celebrate 50 Years, Sep 12-14
August 16, 2001
The Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory (PPPL), one of the first U. S.
fusion research sites, will celebrate its 50-anniversary September 12-14
and invites all to attend.
On July 1, 1951, the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission issued a contract
with Princeton University for fusion research. In honor of the
research accomplishments which have occurred since the first
contract, the U.S. Department of Energy's Princeton University Plasma
Physics Laboratory is hosting "A Celebration of High Temperature
Plasma Physics" conference on September 12 through 14, 2001. A poster
announcing this event is on theri web site at
http://www.pppl.gov.
Presentations on the following topics are scheduled:
- Astrophysical and Geophysical Plasmas;
- Computational Plasma Physics;
- Inertial Fusion Energy Science;
- Macrostability and Microstability;
- Magnetic Fusion Energy Science;
- Magnetic Reconnection;
- Nonneutral Plasmas;
- Plasma-Material Interactions;
- Plasma Waves;
- Solar Fusion Neutrinos.
Confirmed Speakers include:
- Professor John Bahcall, Institute for Advanced Study;
- Dr. Herbert Berk, The University of Texas at Austin;
- Dr. Jill Dahlburg, General Atomics;
- Professor James Drake, University of Maryland;
- Professor Robert Goldston, Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory; Professor
- Jeremy Goodman, Princeton University;
- Dr. Richard Hawryluk, Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory;
- Professor William Heidbrink, University of California, Irvine;
- Professor Karl Lackner, Max Planck Institute for Plasma Physics; Professor
- Gerald Navratil, Columbia University;
- Professor Thomas O'Neil, University of California, San Diego;
- Professor Miklos Porkolab, Massachusetts Institute of Technology;
